Our Story
The Dells Golf Club is a semi-private golf facility operated by Old Cove Golf, LLC an Alabama Limited Liability Corporation.
The course, established as Old Cove Golf in the mid 1990s, and formerly known as Hidden Meadows, was purchased by Roger D. Taylor of RDT Investments LLC in December of 2021. It was immediately closed for renovation. After two years of extensive upgrades and renovations The Dells Golf Club opened for weekend play on December 22nd, 2023. The Dells opened 6 days a week (Tuesday - Sunday) beginning the 16th of April, 2024.
Tee Times may be booked by texting 205.394.3635 anytime or by calling the Clubhouse 205.339.3673 during business hours. See hours of operation.
We are now accepting member applications for Founding Members and Weekday Members. You may signup for potential membership by stopping by the clubhouse or emailing roger@oldcovegolf.com.
A brief list of renovations since the course was purchased:
The Dells has undergone a multi-million dollar renovation sparing no expense to create a destination golf club for Northport, Al.
The Clubhouse was completely renovated including the installation of two new professional grade simulators. The simulator rooms will open in April of 2024 and may be rented for $50/hour for up to 4 players per session.
A new porch and patio were added to the clubhouse for our patrons to enjoy before and after their round. It's a perfect venue for watching golfers complete their rounds, especially once tournament play begins.
A new cart barn was added to the clubhouse area to store the new fleet of ClubCar golf carts. The (48) Standard Carts and (12) VIP Carts include built-in GPS, including complete course layout with auto distancing to the hole, USB ports, Bluetooth speaker system, divot repair bottles, club and ball washers, as well as coolers.
The driving range has been fully reclaimed opening on April 16th. An artificial hitting surface will be added soon to enable Range use year round.
The maintenance facility has been upgraded to include modern equipment for renovating and maintaining the course.
A new computerized pump station with new pumps was added for the irrigation system. New Hunter irrigation stations were added automatically controlling each irrigation zone.
New Hunter irrigation heads have been added throughout the course replacing the outdated, severely damaged heads from the 1990s.
Tee boxes have been reclaimed, resized, and in some cases relocated to enhance the playing experience.
The Dells recommends the following Tee locations:
Black for scratch golfers that routinely shoot 79 or below.Blue for those players that shoot in the 80s.White for golfers shooting in the 90s.Red for golfers that shoot routinely shoot above 100.(Following these guidelines helps maintain pace of play.)(The Dells offers Tee Times every 15 minutes allowing our golfers plenty of time to play each hole without being rushed and to enjoy their round of golf in the beautiful setting of The Dells.)
Dozens of new sand traps have been added to the course for both the challenge and ambience they bring.
Fairways have been returned to Bermudagrass with well defined collars. Fairways, collars, greens surrounds, greens, and playable rough are maintained to suitable heights.
The Greens have been completely renovated with new sprinkler heads, drains, greens mix base, and a TifDwarf bermudagrass playing surface. They are mowed, aerated, dressed, and rolled to maintain a consistent ball speed. Several greens & surrounds were reshaped during the renovation process to control drainage and improve pinnable locations.
Cart paths have been resurfaced.
Thousands of feet of drainage ditches and pipe have been installed to allow the course to drain properly during irrigation and rain events.
Existing culverts have been repaired, and in several cases removed and replaced with bridges, to ensure proper runoff during our heaviest rain events.
The ponds have been silted and a couple of new ponds added for water retention and the challenge they bring to those holes.
Several thousand trees have been removed around the greens, tees, and fairways. Literally thousands of dump loads of debris have been removed from the course... (yes, thousands).
New rest areas have been designed for each side of the road. Construction is currently underway with expected completion by the end of 2024.
Landscaping began in February 2024 including new Magnolia and Taylor evergreen trees, more than 250 azaleas, more than a thousand creeping junipers, dozens of flowing plants, and dozens of tractor trailer loads of 419 Bermuda sod. The final phase, hydro seeding the bare areas in the outlying rough, was completed at the end of April.
Our master plan includes even more improvements and innovations for our members and visitors alike.
